College-bound students are encouraged to take the SAT/ACT as early as possible. Students should consider taking either or both tests during the spring of their Junior year, as these scores will be back in time to begin the college application process early during their Senior year. If Seniors did not take the SAT/ACT during Junior year, they are encourage to take it as soon as possible during their Senior Year (September or October, preferably). A general rule for taking the SAT/ACT is...earlier is better.
The test dates for the SAT and ACT can be found on the websites for the individual tests. Click the links below to go directly to the ACT/SAT date listings for this school year.
SAT Test Dates ACT Test Dates The ACT is an achievement test, measuring what a student has learned in school. The SAT is more of an aptitude test, testing reasoning and verbal abilities.
The ACT has up to 5 components: English, Mathematics, Reading, Science, and an optional Writing Test. The SAT has only 3 components: Critical Reading, Mathematics, and a required Writing Test. The College Board introduced a new version of the SAT in 2005, with a mandatory writing test. ACT continues to offer its well-established test, plus an optional writing test. You take the ACT Writing Test only if required or requested by the college(s) you're applying to. The SAT penalizes you for wrong answers, so guessing is discouraged. The ACT is scored based on the number of correct answers with no penalty for guessing. The ACT has an Interest Inventory that allows students to evaluate their interests in various career options. Taken from: http://www.actstudent.org/faq/actsat.html You will need to request that your SAT and/or ACT scores be sent directly from the ACT and SAT testing centers. You can do this by logging on to your online account and making the request. Please note there is a cost to send test results to colleges after the original test registration ($12-$15, per school).
How do I send colleges my official scores from the ACT we took in the spring of junior year?9/22/2015 To send your ACT scores you will need to set up an online account with ACT (act.org), if you don't already have one. If you are trying to send the scores from the ACT you took in 11th grade you will have to do the following:
You will need to call the ACT center at 319.337.1270. Tell them that you are trying to access the ACT scores that you took through school testing in March of 2014, but you did not register under your SSN and you do not know your ACT ID. Also let them know you are trying to sign up for an online account. In case they ask you, your school number is 344-096. You might also need to give them your home address as verification of your identity. Seniors can place orders for senior pictures directly through Gregg Ward Photogrphy using the information listed on the order form included with the senior proof book or seniors can bring completed order forms to Ms. Boleyn in room 103 before or after school.
Checks for senior picture orders should be made out to "Gregg Ward Photography." Ms. Boleyn is not authorized to make payment arrangements for senior pictures, but the photographers might be willing to set something up. Senior picture photographers (Gregg Ward Photography) can be reached at (252) 974-1226. You can view your past SAT/ACT scores by creating an account on the respective websites (https://sat.collegeboard.org/home and www.act.org). After doing this, you will be allowed to view your scores and sent them to colleges.
The student services department does not give students copies of their SAT/ACT scores. To send your Transcripts via CFNC.org, follow the steps below:
1. Login to CFNC (If you do not know your Login information, contact Ms. Nealy) 2. Verify that demographic information is correctly entered to link CFNC account to Powerschool account (My CFNC--->Your profile--->The Basics--->Click Edit in the "This is Me" box)
4. Click on "Apply to College" 5. Click on "Transcript Manager" 6. Select "Go To Transcript Manager" From here you can select the schools you want to sent the transcript to and click submit. Once the request has been received the college name will show up in the box at the bottom of screen. Status of request will be in the area also. SAT and ACT fee waivers are available for any student who qualifies for free or reduced lunch. If you meet this criteria, students will need to get a print out verifying their lunch status from the cafeteria manager and bring it to student services and give it to Ms. Williams. Ms. Williams will then give the student the SAT/ACT waiver(s). The code found on the waiver will be used to "pay" for the SAT/ACT during online registration.
Please note that these SAT and ACT waivers include college application waivers for select colleges and universities. A list of colleges/universities that accept the SAT/ACT application waiver can be found on the SAT/ACT registration websites. Students can get access to college/university waiver codes by registering their SAT/ACT waiver on the SAT/ACT websites. Some colleges may have their own application waiver forms that need to be completed and verified (see your college/university admissions website for this). In those instances, it is the student's responsibility to obtain these forms and forward the forms Ms. Nealy, along with verification of lunch status. These college/university specific waiver forms require a 2 week processing time. |
