SCHS does not offer a fee waiver for college applications; however, college application fee waivers are available through CollegeFoundation (SAT) for qualifying students.
Student who receive free/reduced lunch are eligible to receive fee waivers for SAT tests, ACT tests, and college applications. In order to get access to these waivers, students will need to see the cafeteria manager for verification of their lunch status and bring this information to Mrs. Williams in student services to get a fee waiver. Senior fees are $20. Fees for 9th-11th grade are $10. Seniors are responsible for paying all student fees before being eligible to participate in the June graduation ceremony. Seniors who have outstanding fees (student fees, book fees, uniform fees, graduation order balances, etc...)will NOT be allowed to walk in the June graduation.
Do seniors take a full class load or just the courses remaining for graduation requirements?6/1/2015
All students must begin the year with 8 classes (4 per semester). The only exception to this policy is senior student who are applying to be Mid-Year Graduates (MYG). During junior year registration, students are eligible to apply for graduation in January of their senior year. Only students who can finish all remaining course work in one semester (fall) will be approved to be MYGs.
Seniors are allowed to drop to classes during 2nd semester as part of the "Senior Drop" process. Only classes not required for graduation will be considered for Senior Drops. Most scholarships require students to be high school seniors to apply; however there are a few "junior search" scholarships. These are scholarships in which the search for scholarship candidates begins during the junior year of high school. Junior search scholarships will be shared with students by their junior counselor. All other scholarships will be done during the senior year. Students are encouraged to begin scholarship searching and applications as soon as possible.
The only time Seniors "sign" for financial obligations are during cap & gown orders. If a student signs the paperwork on his/her own, signing this paperwork makes the student financially responsible for paying off the order. The student is not allowed to participate in any graduation activities unless their graduation order is paid in full. Graduation orders are placed in late October-early November and must be paid in full by March 1st.
Higher education planning should be done based on the specific needs and goals of the individual student. Some students find it beneficial to stay local to attend for the first 2 years for a variety of reasons (finances, not being sure of career path, family obligations, etc...). Other students, are eager to start their collegiate journey away from home. The best thing to do is to consider the pros and cons of each option and do what is the best interest of the student.
The UNC System schools only require 3 sciences for admission to UNC System college/university; however, some pre-declaration programs, may require credits outside of the UNC general admission requirements. Private and out-of-state colleges/universities may have requirements that differ from the UNC general admission requirements. Seniors should visit the websites of schools they are interested in attending to see school/major specific admissions requirements.
